A GM Scholar and GM Fellow during undergraduate and graduate studies, Gary graduated from the
University of Pennsylvania with B.S. and M.S. degrees in Engineering and an MBA from The
Wharton School.

He was one of the original members of Saturn Corporation. His contributions went beyond his
responsibilities as lead engineer for plastic exteriors; he also helped develop the organization's
structure, culture, decision-making methodology, hiring practices, training, team development,
personnel evaluation, and staffing.

At Kingston-Warren (Hutchinson), Gary worked his way from Product Engineering Manager, Senior
Sales Engineer, Senior Program Manager, Engineering Manager to Plant Manager, and joined
Cooper-Standard Automotive as Executive Director of Process Engineering. He had many notable
achievements along the way. Managing technical groups of over 100 people, he consistently met
or exceeded cost reduction targets. He facilitated a major product redesign that met customer and
supplier goals while actually increasing the company's profit margins.

In 2001, Gary founded Butler Fitzgerald Associates, specializing in business improvement and lean
systems, strategic planning, leadership development and coaching, value stream mapping,
inventory reduction, workplace organization and cycle time reduction. His Total Quality and lean
system solutions have repeatedly reduced his clients' operating costs by as much as 50%.
